The Rumor Mill

Addressing terrible accidents that never happened.
Since Jodie's days on the sitcom, "Full House" there have been a near contstant flow of false rumors about Jodie being hurt or killed in various ways. This section is a collection of some of those rumors.

Jodie's Falls Aren't Fatal - Bop Magazine, 1994

Many the Jodie Sweetin fan has fallen for the slew of circulating rumors about the 12-year-old Full House star. Well, we and Jodie are here to tell you that despite gossip of a fatal car accident and a romance with Jonathan Taylor Thomas, Jodi is still breathing and has yet to start dating. Yet the rumor mill keeps grinding away. One of the latest whoppers, Jodie tells BOP, is that "I fell off a rollercoaster. When it went upside down, I fell out."

Needless to say, the rollercoaster incident never took place, and Jodie is now asking for your help in putting all this to rest. "I would like to say to everyone that if you hear the rumor, just tell them, 'No, she is not dead.'"

There's no telling how these rumors take root, though Jodie does confess that she's had a fair share of minor falls.

"On the set, I am known for falling," she admits. Perhaps that's where the stories of her untimely demise began. After all, the entire cast and crew of Full House have witnessed her faceplants. On one in-house videotape of Full House bloopers, "They have, like, a five-minute thing of me just falling down the stairs and tripping," Jodie says.

Rest assured, Jodie fans, none of these spills have been fatal. But just the same, perhaps you would like to join us in telling Jodie, "Have a nice trip; see you next fall!"

Q.
A friend of mine recently told me that Jodie Sweetin (Stephanie on "Full House") was hit by a drunk driver and killed. Is this true? -- J.M., Iva, S.C.

A. No. And it is curious how many rumors are circulation about poor Jodie. She is fin, and has not been hit by a drunk driver, fallen off a skateboard, drowned in a surfing accident, or any of the other wild stories swirling about her pretty head.

TV Guide - August 10, 2002
QUESTION: My 8-year-old daughter is a fan of Full House. One of her friends told her that she had seen an article in the newspaper that said that Jodie Sweetin (Stephanie Tanner) had died in a car accident. Is this true? — Linda Sisetski, Winnipeg., Man.

ANSWER: Fear not, Ms. Sweetin is alive and well. It's amazing how these rumors get started, though. In fact, Sweetin is just the latest in a long line of celebrity death urban legends, passed around the playgrounds of North America. Other 'honorees' include Steve Burns ("Blue's Clues"), Jerry Mathers ("Leave It to Beaver"), and even Britney Spears.
