Celebrity Mom Q&A
June 2008
Overall, how was your pregnancy experience? Was it what you had hoped for or were there surprises for you along the way?
My pregnancy experience was amazing! I was very fortunate to have an easy pregnancy. I didn't have morning sickness, no swelling and no stretch marks on the tummy! It was much easier than I thought it would be.
Everyone wants to give advice to you when you're pregnant – what to eat or what not to eat; exercises to make you feel stronger and more energetic; and whether or not you should color your hair or have a ½ glass of wine per day. What's the best piece of advice you received and what do you wish you hadn't been told?
The best piece of advice I received was to enjoy being pregnant! You really get spoiled with attention and once the baby arrives, all of that really changes, in a good way of course! It's a really amazing time in your life and to enjoy all the changes you go through and remember what a miracle it is. I was really lucky with the bad advice, because I didn't get any!
What couldn't you live with or without during your pregnancy – whether it was food, beverage, an article of clothing or whatever?
I was craving grilled salmon panini's and frozen Marie Callendars chicken pot pies! Our freezer was stocked with them for nine months!
.
Was there a particular fitness regimen you followed and what did you enjoy most about it?
I did pilates for the first 3 or 4 months of the pregnancy. After that, my husband and I would take walks in the evening. But I didn't have a strict workout regimen, I enjoyed taking a little time off from that!
When was your baby born – and was there anything you couldn't live without to get you through delivery? For instance, a special blanket, or music or movie to watch?
My baby was born April 12 at 3:20 pm. I had a really long, hard labor, almost 40 hours that ended in a C-section! My husband, parents and mother-in-law were with me throughout it all, but I also have a little stuffed green frog that my husband bought me. Its name is “Irma” and whenever the contractions got really bad, I'd give Irma a really hard squeeze! It's silly but it definitely helped.
How has becoming a mother changed your outlook on life? How will it impact the work that you do professionally?
Being a mom makes me a lot more appreciative of the little things. A little smile, a little hand, a little nose!
What's a typical day like for you and the baby? Do you have a favorite activity?
Zoie usually wakes up between 8 and 9am, and she first gets changed, then fed a bottle. After that, she's pretty alert for about an hour and I sit and talk to her, watching every adorable little face she makes. My husband and I love to watch her! Then she'll sleep for a few hours and we start all over again. Since she's so little, she isn't too active yet, but she's only 6 weeks old!
Have you learned any tips and tricks along the way to help ease through the difficult times such as baby not sleeping through the night or willing to take naps?
Zoie is definitely daddy's girl. We've learned when she won't settle down, if she just lays on daddy's chest for a while, she's asleep in no time! We also feed her a little bit more at the last feeding before bedtime, then she sleeps a little better and longer!
Do you have a particular trait (physical or personality-wise) that you don't want to pass on to your child?
My husband and I are both a little stubborn (ok, a lot stubborn), so I hope she's a little better than us!
Do you have any words of wisdom you'd like to pass along to other moms out there?
Just do your best with your baby, nobody's perfect! As long as you give them lots of love and cuddles, you're doing a great job!!
